About Us

  Our Story

Hi there! I’m Tricia, the dyer behind Pleasant Valley Fibers. I’ve been a knitter since I was in my twenties, but didn’t discover indie-dyed yarn until ten years later when I was a stay-at-home mom with three kids always underfoot. Those vibrant colors and speckles kept calling for me. There was only one problem: I lived in a LYS desert, and we were living on a single income. What was a SAHM to do? Armed with clearance wool and Easter egg dye, I began an adventure and a hobby that turned into Pleasant Valley Fibers.

A couple of years into my colorful adventure, I was diagnosed as a Spoonie (autoimmune disease), and everyday tasks became more challenging, but I pushed through. In 2020, I pushed too hard and took on too many tasks, which left me with no time to knit, dye, or even take care of myself. That triggered the worst flare-up I’ve experienced. My body demanded that I slow down and take care of myself.

I made time for myself and started knitting and dyeing again. I was slowly recovering from my flare-up, and that’s when I realized how much knitting and dyeing yarn were a part of practicing self-care. Creating again gave me a fulfilling sense of calm and relaxation.

That sense of calm and relaxation is why I keep dyeing. I want to share that with you, my customer, through my unique yarn colorways. Creativity feeds the soul, and I am honored to provide you with a tool for that process.  If you want to learn about what a Spoonie is, you can read  The Spoon Theory here.
